For The Love Of — Yellow Interior Details

Ochre, Canary, and Chartreuse, Oh My
I used to tell my interior design team that I was "working on my relationship with yellow". It was hard for me to visualize the color used in an elevated way. I had really only ever seen it applied in the context of "gender-neutral" nurseries or dated, country kitchens; but I was oh-so-wrong. Maybe it was the darkness of 2020 or just my taste evolving having left New York City after eight long years, but suddenly I find myself attracted to all the sunny, warm, happy, radiant, yellow interior details.
Give me ochre, give me canary, give me saffron — I'm loving it all.
See some of the design work that changed my mind — and the products I'm eyeing to introduce this sunny color into my life.

A Sunny Backsplash
YELLOW POP TILE
This farmhouse kitchen by Landed Interiors was the first to wow me. The saffron Zellige tile gives this backsplash depth, variation and sophistication and the small, square tile paired with the vertical lines of the contemporary beaded cabinetry is just ~ chef's kiss ~

A Warm Reading Nook
PALE YELLOW UPHOLSTERY
The yellow upholstery in this cozy nook by Studio Robert McKinley gives me all the kick-back, Saturday morning feelings. Set against a soft blue room, this space is calming, inviting, and warm. Best of all, this bungalow is a rentable Airbnb.

Maximalist Layers
BOLD PAINT FOR HAPPY ROOMS
This layered, eclectic, maximalist Maine home by Katie Rosenfeld Design makes me want to run out and cover my home in color. Her spaces are bold and brave; her yellow and blue pairings may be classic, but her prints are playful and fresh.

Subtle Stripe Details
YELLOW THROW PILLOWS
Athena Calderone of Eye Swoon flooded all of our feeds this past year with her absolutely stunning interiors — seen in her Brooklyn townhouse and newly renovated Hamptons home. Her work is textural and organic, minimal with soft color pops, like this one. It's perfection, really, so why not don a dress to match your cushions?

Statement Trim
EMBRACING COLOR ON DOORS, MOLDING,
AND BOOKCASES
Hairstylist Cyndia Harvey's home in South London is warm, eclectic, and laid back. It feels as if each furniture piece tells a story; her space inspires me to forget about the classic white trim and play with color in unexpected places.

A Happy Headboard
YELLOW DETALS IN THE BEDROOM
This poppy headboard, as seen in the guest rooms of the Palm Heights Hotel quite simply makes me smile. Who doesn't want to wake up surrounded by warm hues that energize? Yellow details run throughout this hotel and I am here for all of it—*frantically bookmarks for a future holiday*.

Colorful Exterior Trim
PLAYFUL OUTDOOR COLOR POPS
UM, Hi There, Gorgeous — these yellow exterior trim details by Pierre Yovanovitch stopped me in my scrolling tracks. Sure, maybe it's the fact that we see it coupled with the bright white stucco or the deep blue sky, but all of this just works for me.

Pop Accent Lighting
GOLDEN DECORATIVE PENDANTS, TASK LAMPS, AND MORE
In this dining space, yellow decorative lighting, seen in the pendants and task lamp, bring a fresh color pop to the space. Paired with a Swedish Kilim rug and power-clashing prints, the room is playful and unexpected.

Happy Hospitality
YELLOW DETAILS IN HOTELS, RESTAURANTS, AND
MORE
Be it in the wallpaper or furniture, the yellow details across these commercial interiors bring a smile to my face.
